Admission to Grantham Museum to remain Free

Admission to Grantham Museum is to remain free after a review of their pricing and revenue streams.

David Burling, Director says “We have had to review all of our charges across the board to respond to challenging economic times in the Heritage sector. It is our view that Grantham Museum should remain free to all and therefore have left our admission price unchanged.

We do ask for donations from our visitors who can afford it. A small donation of £2 can go a long way to helping us tell our story for years to come”.

Grantham Museum has recently embarked on a number of initiatives to cut costs and waste from the Museum. They currently offer half price hot drinks for anyone who brings their reusable cup in. David added “The  Museum considers our responsibility to the environment as of the utmost importance so we have reviewed our waste policy and contracts to minimize our impact on the environment”.

A blue plaque was unveiled on Thursday 9th November 2017 in honour of the man who founded Grantham Museum, Henry Preston.

Mr Finn said: “Henry Preston was an amazing man. He taught technical evening classes as early as 1874 and founded the Grantham Scientific Society in 1890 and with it Grantham Museum. Its new building, opened by Henry, was completed in 1926 and of course it is still here today.”

Mr Preston was born in 1852 and lived and contributed to the town until the day he died at his home at 52, Cambridge Street in 1940.
